Things He Said Today
By Joe Johnson

Welcome to another exciting Beatle Brunch Newsletter!
While we just featured “Septembers to Remember” on our most recent Beatle Brunch program, it stands to remind me how significant and life-changing summers were in the lives of The Beatles.
The list of What Goes On, goes on and on, but some of the most notable evolutions within The Beatles took place around this time in history. The most important was really a two-pronged move: The recording of their first hit single, “Love Me Do” with the addition of Ringo on the drums and maracas, as was the case with this song and its flip side, “P.S. I Love You”.  Yes, we love you Ringo and we could not Imagine The Beatles without you.  Within You Without You?
This month also marks the last time The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, February 12th, 1965, when they played 6 new songs for Ed’s audience, recorded the day before their famous first concert at Shea Stadium. It was also the first time Paul performed “Yesterday” solo on American TV. He told David Letterman when he appeared on The Late Show in 2009, that he wasn’t really nervous, until the stage manager said to him, “You should be, there are 73 million people watching”.
Speaking of millions of people, as we celebrate our 20th year of Beatle Brunch, make sure you take the time to listen to the Classic Clips on and Old Brown Shows on We’re trying to find the rarest of Brunches to present to you. We just posted a show from September 12th, 1993 called “Reel Music”, spotlighting the Capitol album of Beatles’ movie songs, with stories from the film- stars themselves, The Beatles. Back then I was 35 years old and about halfway into where my radio career is today.  But, the shows hold up, in fact, there’s something comforting about listening to a show that refers to Paul’s recent 50th birthday, or what George was involved in that week.
So as we greet another September to remember, and you perhaps, greet the brand new day, a heartfelt Thank You Girl (or guy) for supporting a 20 year love fest for The Beatles, that really began 50 years ago, when Ringo brought his sticks and played for George Martin.
