Paul Does “Michelle”
Obama Presents Award

Paul McCartney had been itching to perform a certain song at the White House, and he seized the moment when it arrived last week. The former Beatle brought down the house at an East Room concert Wednesday night by belting out "Michelle," aiming its romantic lyrics straight at a first lady named Michelle. The President didn't seem to mind though: He was swaying along to the beat while his wife mouthed the words along with McCartney.
The 90-minute concert was built around Obama's presentation to McCartney of the
Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, awarded by the Library of Congress. The President said McCartney had "helped to lay the soundtrack for an entire generation." McCartney, 67, said it was a moment like no other.

"I don't think there could be anything more special than to play here," said Paul, then he volunteered to make it a regular gig. "Lunchtimes, we could come around," he offered. "We're cheap."
The concert featured an all-star lineup of top performers doing their own interpretations of some of McCartney's greatest hits. One of the highlights was when Paul joined
Stevie Wonder on “Ebony and Ivory”. Other artists appearing included the Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Herbie Hancock, White Stripes singer and guitarist Jack White, pianist Lang Lang and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, plus comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

Paul closed the night by playing several Beatle tunes with his band. Listen for an excerpt from this magic night on the Paul Birthday Beatle Brunch program airing the weekend of June 19th. You can watch the entire special when it airs nationwide on PBS on July 28.

Fan Letters

What is it your 19th or 20th (Beatle Brunch Anniversary)? Does it matter? You are still going strong. I believe The Beatles have had one of most successful years ever. I believe there is a resurgence of The Beatles Music and so on. I want to commend your staff on making available the download of your show each week, also the idea of having a month to month fee to try out The Beatle Brunch Club without having to be committed, so to speak, to a year subscription (or more)...I wish I could go on a Beatle Cruise down in Florida ... I believe it would be awesome . Again I just want to say what a great job you do on the show and every Sunday when I listen to it on WODS 103.3 Boston and its over I am anticipating the show for the following week. Joe, NO ONE can do The Beatles like you can. Wish you all the Best Now and in the Future. A True Fan and Loyal Beatle Brunch Club Member for Life. Devils Radio it is Not.
