A Blast From the Past? Y Not?

Last week, Ringo flashed forward and looked back to the past on his new cd Y Not, which came out on Hip-O Records / UMe.

The flash forward is Ringo’s first job as producer on an album (his last five studio CDs were produced by former Roundheads bandmate Mark Hudson, who also had a one song production credit on Ringo’s last album, “Liverpool 8”.

The Blast from the Past is most notably the appearance of Beatle Paul on two of the tracks. Macca plays bass on the Lennon influenced, “Peace Dream” and then famously sings background on the first single, “Walk With You”.

It Was 30 Years Ago Today

Thirty years ago this week, you can be sure Paul McCartney did not hold the same place in his heart for Japan that his former Beatle Brother John did. It was January 25th 1980 that Paul was released after spending ten days in a Japanese prison.

Macca’s ordeal began on the 16th of January when Paul, his family and the three other members of Wings arrived at Narita International Airport where customs inspectors quickly found nearly eight ounces of what Paul had described as “dynamite weed” (with a Japanese street value of ¥600,000) barely hidden in one of Macca’s suitcases and in the hood of eight-year-old Stella’s coat. Paul’s Single Back on EMI

Sir Paul McCartney has inadvertently found his new single is being released by EMI - the music giant he famously quit in 1997 after more than four decades, complaining he was being treated as "part of the furniture".

The track, (I Want To) Come Home, was recorded for the soundtrack of the movie “Everybody's Fine” and is due to be officially released on March 1. The song has been a download on i-tunes and paulmccartney.com for several weeks. The track is not included on the film soundtrack album, but in the UK and Europe, it will be issued by EMI, the label he quit after 45 years of Beatles and solo releases.

One, Two, Three, Four, Can I Have a Little More?

Here’s the new Yellow Submarine design that will be used in the new Robert Zemeckis version of The Beatles classic Yellow Submarine film, which is getting its 2010 update from Walt Disney Pictures.
Heat Vision reports that Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell are in talks to play The Beatles in the film. In the 3D performance capture film, Kelly (BBC's "Robin Hood") is portraying John Lennon, Serafinowicz plays Paul McCartney, Elwes (A Christmas Carol), is George Harrison, and Campbell will be Ringo Starr, or so we believe. The 1968 animated feature was based on the music of The Beatles and featured the inspired art direction and design of Heinz Edelmann. The movie is set in Pepperland, an undersea paradise inhabited by music lovers who live in peace and harmony and are protected by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. That is... until they are threatened by the music-hating Blue Meanies. It's up to John, Paul, George and Ringo to set off on a magical adventure in their yellow submarine and bring music and harmony back to Pepperland, which of course they do.
