We’re back in the U.S, back in the U.S., back in the U.S. Are We, and what a time we had on our Third Annual Beatles Tribute Cruise on the amazing Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas, a floating 17-story Ed Sullivan Show.
BTC’ers celebrated the anniversary of The Beatles' first U.S. visit and their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan, with some amazing concert performances, informative “talks” and a jam session that went well into the night.
For the second year in a row, we were joined by Wings member, two-time Grammy® award winning guitarist Laurence Juber, whose two concerts wowed the crowd. You’d swear there was another guitar hidden behind the backdrop, as L J always makes HIS guitar sing in harmony with itself. What a pleasure, L J, and thank you for bringing your lovely wife, Hope! And by the way, it's official, she’s now part of the Beatle Brunch entourage and we hope you both return for our next celebration.
How can you describe Mark Hudson? He was a first time cruiser with us, and I’m sure everyone on board will never forget his colorful personality, Carnaby Street-style togs, his singing panache and riveting storytelling. Mark mesmerized the crowd with tales of Ringo, George, John and Paul (the only one who’s never cursed at him!). But perhaps Mark’s Ozzy Osbourne tales were the most entertaining and his “Don Henley You Bastard” song and tale will go down in rock music history!
Tony Bramwell … well, what can you say? T B was once again in rare form, entertaining the troops with tales of his boyhood friendship with George and the other three. And thanks, Tony, for bringing along those amazing “fly on the wall” videos for us to enjoy ... what a guy! The Shea concert film was an extra special treat.
“Revolution” was the ship’s house band, who really embraced our BTC’ers by selflessly sharing themselves with us at all of our private events and parties. Tim Piper’s “Just Imagine” John Lennon Show on the last night brought the crowd to tears. Thanks Tim, for preparing that show just for us...it was truly magical and your Help throughout the week was greatly appreciated. Your son, Casey, is the consummate assistant and grand keeper of all your performances
It took a major act of "Royal" Congress to prepare and pull off L J and Mark’s on-stage jam with Revolution, but the entire ship got to see and hear two of the closest friends of The Beatles in rare form. Oh! Darling, what a show! Afterward, as the audience exited the concert, L J and Mark posed for pics, signed autographs and shook hands while accepting gracious commendations for a remarkable performance.
We think that most of our BTCruisers will rate the “Unplugged” show Thursday night as one of the best shows, period! Thanks to Laurence Juber, Mark Hudson, Tim Piper, John Hepburn and Jimmy Pou for giving a spectaqcular impromptu performance. This was an incredible night, that closed out with an ensemble singalong of “Hey Jude”.
A very special thanks to our Beatle Brunch Host and emcee, Joe Johnson, the man whose intros and Beatles Trivia Contests helped spread the love (and prizes) of The Beatles to all those on board. Also a great BIG thank you to Angela from Music In M'Ocean, whose planning was note perfect for this voyage. Thank you girl! Thanks to Don E. Gee, who kept the programs running without a glitch, and added a pony-tail’s length of entertainment value along the way. And last, but not least, thanks to Woody “we’re looking for 1-0-0-6-2-5” 'The Raffle Man' Lifton, who fund-raised for Hope and L J’s charity with assistance from Josh.
All in all, we couldn’t have asked for better entertainment, better weather, a nicer ship and a more Fab group of Beatles Tribute Cruisers who, despite the calm seas, kept the Oasis rockin’ all week. It truly is “getting better all the time”.
We hope you can find yourselves in the pics we’re posting! See you next time!
