JAZZ VERVE ON BEATLES
TUNES
Christophe
Violland is the arranger and musical director of a sensational
13 piece group called, Tentet Au Carre. Out of his love for
The Beatles he developed an orchestra of 27 very talented
musicians that he calls The FrenchBlackBirds. It is this group
that will assemble for the 2007 Montreux Jazz Festival ...
their first gig and joining them is former Tower Of Power
lead vocalist , Carmen Grillo. He sings the group's version
of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band ... check it
out, and while you're at it listen to several other excerpts
from sample recordings of The Long And Winding Road and We
Can Work It Out.
Chris
grew up with The Beatles and prefers the music to his favorite
jazz artists. He arranges Beatles tunes with a jazz rock fusion
that's heady and thoughtful ... 'tasty' as most musicians
call it. His keyboard playing is concise and melodic ... distinctive
... not copied, but it could be traced through the auspices
of Scientology. The large ensemble of musicians come together
to form an excellent communication of musical prowess that
unmistakably nails each and every tune to the chart though
still allowing for a bit of adlib. Chris runs a tight ship
and the crew deserves a great deal of notice.
We love them at Beatle Brunch and we hope you do too!
